CHALLENGE
PeakLogix was asked to provide Howmet with ideas to improve their cubic storage versatility while minimizing the overall footprint. They were not happy with their existing vertical carousels and wanted to look at other options.
SOLUTION
PeakLogix replaced five vertical carousels with five taller and more versatile vertical lift modules (VLM). In addition, designed with double-deep pushback rack, selective rack and carton flow rack, the floor level carton flow racking became the base for the double-deep pushback rack..
RESULTS
As a result, Alcoa’s Howmet Casting facility in Hampton, VA has increased its productivity by centralizing resources into a smaller area and using space more efficiently. “PeakLogix gives us fantastic solutions and excellent customer support,” says Berkley.
SPECS
• The VLMs 24-foot height and minimal footprint of 10 feet wide by 8 feet deep, increased storage space without requiring expensive warehouse expansion.
• The VLMs offer greater capacities – 1,110 lb or 550 per tray, or total capacities of 132,000 lbs or 99,000 lbs for each machine.
