Ready – Set – Go

June 18th, 2012

Have you ever been in a position that you knew you had to change something but maybe you weren’t quite ready? Last summer I found myself in that position. Change was no longer an option but a necessity.  After choosing not to change for way too long, change was inevitable.  Options were explored, pros and cons were weighed and a decision was made.  The correct tools were purchased and I was on my way.

Change is not easy.  Are you doing things the same way you did five, ten, twenty years ago? If so, don’t put it off any longer now is the time for change.  Explore new options, decide on a new course of action and make it happen.

PeakLogix can help you.  Being a material handling systems integrator, we work with you to explore all options and make change happen.  How about it?  Should you be exploring a conveyor system, a pick module or robotics? We help you make informed decisions, we help you find the correct tools, and we help you on your way to making change happen.  Plus we’re there to support you through the changes, and after the changes are in place.

Life style was the change I had to make. From inactivity to activity is not an easy step. My goal is to walk 10,000 steps daily. Ready- I’ve purchased the correct walking shoes and a pedometer.  Set-I’ve been increasing my number of steps by walking daily. GO-I’m walking my first 10K this weekend.  A 10K is approximately 6.2 miles.  I couldn’t have done it last summer.  I know I can do it now.

Sometimes change isn’t so bad-you just have to make it happen.

How can we help you make change happen?

“All Things Seem Possible in May” – Edwin Way Teale

May 8th, 2012

May is here and along with the spring flowers comes graduation ceremonies and the excitement of new opportunities for graduating college seniors in the industrial engineering, supply chain and logistics fields. DC Velocity published an article in April forecasting the continued gains in the material handling industry.

PeakLogix participated in a Classroom Day at Modex 2012 this past February, which provided us with the opportunity to meet college and high school students from across the country who are interested in pursuing careers in our industry.

Thanks to Bob Giberson for leading a tour group and to Mike Holler for presenting PeakLogix to the students. Most importantly, congratulations to all of the graduates we met….we hope to see you again soon!

Strategic Leadership at PeakLogix

April 12th, 2012

According to Wikipedia, ”Strategic leadership provides the vision and direction for the growth and success of an organization.  To successfully deal with change, all executives need the skills and tools for both strategy formulation and implementation.”  This same thought process can be used from the largest of projects to the smallest.  What type of team should this type of strategic leadership create?

In my 11 ½ years of working at PeakLogix, I can honestly say it is a pleasure to work with such a great “team” of individuals.  A team where everyone from the Client, to the Regional/Area Director, to the Client Support team, to Procurement, to Project Management, to Accounting (both Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable), takes ownership of a project and works together to ensure the client receives the best results, while we maintain a strong sense of pride in successfully implementing projects throughout their various stages.

As Accounting Manager for PeakLogix, I deal with our clients on the front-end when I work with our Regional Directors to set up businesses in our system, negotiate the terms of payment, and work with our clients’ accounting department to continue building and nurturing these important relationships.

Additionally, on the back-end of the accounting process, I have the opportunity to deal with each of our material handling industry vendors and manufacturers to negotiate terms and implement payments while continuing to develop and foster these important relationships.

I sincerely hope that our sense of pride in being part of the PeakLogix team and understanding leaderships’ vision and direction to work hard, is transparent to our clients.  If Wikipedia is correct, we certainly have the strategic leadership in place that will hopefully result in continued opportunities to prove ourselves as a significant competitor within the material handling industry while implementing successful projects in the future.

PeakLogix Goes to Nashville

April 2nd, 2012

As a “Thank You”, for all of their hard work and initiative this past year, management at PeakLogix organized a company trip to Nashville, Tennessee for the PeakLogix team of experts including: Engineers, Project Managers, Equipment Solutions, Sales, Service and Client Support employees.

The vast majority of the PeakLogix team had never been to Nashville and everyone fell in love with the city. It was a fantastic weekend of honky tonks, Grand Ole Opry, city tours, and checking out the country music scene.

This was a great bonding experience for our staff and now the PeakLogix team is back in the office feeling refreshed and working closer than ever before to ensure all of our customers’ material handling needs are served exceptionally well.

MHEDA Winter Board Meeting

March 28th, 2012

As my second year on the MHEDA (Material Handling Equipment Distributors Association) board of directors, I am really beginning to get the hang of it. There’s a lot to think about and do for an organization with 500 members.

MHEDA helps material handling integrators and forklift dealers operate better businesses and provide more value for their clients. This year’s board meeting trip was another great experience.

This year’s meeting revolved mostly around how we can make our profession more professional. MHEDA started a new MVP program to elevate the elite member firms in the eyes of the end user community, the vendors, and our peers. The MVP dealers must meet a rigorous set of standards to achieve this status (PeakLogix has been recognized as an MVP for 2012 – one of only about 20 or so distributors).

Additionally, there was a lot of time and effort spent discussing social media and although I don’t pretend to understand it all – I realize it’s here to stay. I am now committed to figuring it out and getting on board. Stay tuned to the PeakLogix Blog because we are planning to update it more frequently. Also, if you have any suggestions on ways that we may be able to improve our social media campaigns, we are always eager to hear your comments.

The MHEDA Board works hard on Education and Networking for its members benefits. Everyone should check out MHEDA’s web site, www.mheda.org, it’s truly a great site with super content and resources.

It is always great to meet with the 20 or so business owners from around the country, that make up the MHEDA Board of Directors, to talk about what’s working in our industry and how we can help each other improve in the areas that may not be gaining as much traction as we would like.

Until next time,

Variety – The Spice of Life

July 8th, 2011

As has become tradition, the family and I loaded up and headed north to visit friends and family back home in Allentown, Pennsylvania for the July 4th weekend.  During the visit, several folks asked how my career with PeakLogix is going and what types of projects I have been working on recently.  As I answered, it struck me just how broad the customer base is that we work with on a daily basis.  Granted projects will always vary in size and scope, as would be expected.  But, the size of the various companies PeakLogix serves truly covers a vast spectrum as well.

As I continued to think through this more I realized that serving such a broad variety of companies is one of the most enjoyable and rewarding aspects of working at PeakLogix.

One day we have the opportunity to work on a large scale automation project for a well known national company, ultimately helping them service regions of people.  Then the next day, we find ourselves in a small Mom-n-Pop shop helping them to find a little extra space through better storage or eliminate a nuisance safety issue.

There’s so much variety in the places we see and the people we have the privilege of meeting, it easily keeps things exciting for me.  Exciting sure does make the days go by quickly – I guess that old adage really is true – time flies when you’re having fun!
